Enabling Customer-Driven Value and Innovations through Digital EA

Digital disruptions are occurring at a warp speed, as a result, organisations are required to keep pace with digital innovations and transform rapidly to a customer-driven organisation by providing lifetime value through the evolution of products and services.

Digital Enterprise Architecture (EA) dives into the business capabilities including the technology and architecture capabilities and the value streams. Both plays an integral role in optimising value for a customer-driven organisation. Modeling the organisation business architecture is a best practice to ensure business strategy is consistent across every business units and departments of an organisation. It represents holistic, multidimensional business views of: capabilities, end‐to‐end value delivery, information, and organisational structure; and the relationships among these business views and strategies, products, policies, initiatives, and stakeholders.

Organisations that embrace change as a constant often achieve greater success and in every customer-driven organisation, Digital EA has been recognised as an effective mechanism for assessing the impact of change on an organisation and making recommendations to support its business objectives for the continuous innovative changes. Value Stream in a Customer-Driven Organisation

The concept of value in TOGAF® is important from an architectural perspective because it forms the basis for the innovation requirements. An organisation usually provides several value propositions to its different customer segments that are delivered by the value streams. Value stream is an extension of business capability models which allow an architect to map the flow of value through and organisation and understand what services are involved in the delivery of a certain value. TOGAF® describes value stream as a representation of an end-to-end collection with value-added activities that create results for stakeholders which can also be customers. As a customer-driven organisation, architects have to put an effort into knowing the customer better. By leveraging the value stream, the quality of the products of services and products will increase because there is an alignment between the value and the changing needs.

Digital EA should not be limited to only architecting the transformation of an organisation but should also focus on contributing to the optimisation of value for the customers and the stakeholders. With TOGAF® as the framework, customer-driven organisations will be able to operate more effectively and brings numerous benefits.
